Mars - wandering planet, it belongs only to him. From time to time the red planet seemed to be moving across the sky. In different ages it confused observes and astronomers. The discovering of Mars began in Ancient Egypt 3.5 thousand years ago. Several centuries later, in 1514, a scientific studying of planetary movement led the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus's to revolutionary understanding of the Solar system. Previously people believed that the Earth was the centre of the Universe, but Copernicus stated that the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun.

The age of two planets – Earth and Mars, is approximately 4.5 billion years old. Today scientists believe that Mars was "warm enough" in order that on its surface could be water in the liquid state. Mars Rovers NASA confirmed this. On the planet Mars there was fresh water in a liquid state with a neutral acidity, which you can drink in the past. With Mars Rovers Opportunity and Curiosity, it became known that 4 billion years ago the planet was warm and had wet climate. At that time the ocean Atlantic size could cover a third of the planet. This tells us that at that time, Mars was with electromagnetic field that protected him from the sun's radiation.

There are two theories, according to which the red planet has lost an electromagnetic field and consequently of the atmosphere. According to the first, the atmosphere is gone for the actions of volcanic activity and eventual fall of meteorites. In proof of this theory, it should be noted that Mars has the tallest mountain in the Solar system – Olympus (lat. Olympus Mons). Now it is a dormant volcano with a height of 21 km from the base. Also almost the entire planet is covered with volcanic ash. Further Mars get red color due to iron oxide. On Earth, volcanic rock gets a red color upon contact with the atmosphere as a result of oxidation, a similar process could occur on Mars. As a result, the core of the planet ceased to create the protective field and on Mars fall the solar wind.

According to another theory Mars had more satellites, which rotate in orbit. These satellites are "warmed up" the planet's core, which in turn created a magnetic field. Through half a billion years after the creation of the planet, satellites fell on her.  Than the core of planet started “cool off” and ceased to create an electromagnetic field that held the atmosphere. After one of the variants of the tragic history of Mars, the planet was covered with ice. In the period from 100 to 2 million years ago on the surface of the planet created new fissures and craters.
